Edgar Allan Poe favorites - SueP

I've long been a big Edgar Allan Poe fan. He wrote some of the scariest stories ever and thank goodness they were just stories and not full novels! Imagine having your friend wall you into a basement while you were sleeping after having shared a bottle of wine. (Cask of Amontillado).

Or imagine going to a partywhere another guest intentionally infects the entire room of partygoers with the most contagious, deadliest disease known to man - and then locks all the doors and windows so no one can escape. (Masque of the Red Death).

Poe's Tell-Tale Heart, The Black Cat, and Descent into the Maelstrom all send chills down my spine every time I read them. I think that a constant theme is that there is no escaping that which haunts us, and we are often the makers of our own demons.
